Summer Project

On Monday 22nd September, I set out on the journey of starting university. I attend Solent Southampton University & I already love it! I have met some amazing people both in my course & also in my halls that I live in. It's amazing how quickly you can become friends with people and be so close to them when you've only just really met them.

I study BA (HONS) Make-Up & Hair Design and my tutor is called Sharon D Lloyd. As an orientation excerise, she told us to create a moodboard with the title "If I Could... I Would". This also had to include where we would see ourselves in five years time. We did this over the summer before we attened univeristy. Once in lesson, we had to get into groups and show each person our moodboards as answer some questions about it. We then each had to interview the person who was talking about their moodboard.

This is the outcome of the three girls that I interview.

Jamie-Ann Kale

Jamie's inspiration for her moodboard was Karla Powell for the use of her make-up styles & also Kristyan Mallet for her use of prosthetic work. Jamie also likes to work with nail art so this was also a personal inspiration to herself. The research used for this moodboard was done on the internet & also from magazines. I really like this moodboard because you can tell that Jamie put in a lot of effort and time into this piece of work. She also put her own twist on a simple moodboard by using textures and 3D objects to make her piece come to life. Jamie's overall outcome with her final project was "I'm happy with it but I feel I could have done something more". I  believe that this is an amazing piece of work with alot of different aspects used so I couldn't figure out why she said that she could have done something more, I thought it was brilliant!

Sylwia Mazur

Sylwia's inspiration for her moodboard was a mixture of objects like colour, fashion in general, make-up products & wigs. She was also inspired by an Instagram profile called 'Stellar'. Sylwia didn't want to look at people for her main inspiration source because she wanted to capture what she wants to be like as a person in five years time and you can't just look at some and say I want to be them. I like her she did this because it shows that she really took on the task in hand and thought about where she really wanted to see herself in the future. The research used for her moodboard was done on the internet in websites like Instagram and also from magazines like Heat & Closer. Sylwia's overall outcome of what she thought about her moodboard was that it captured her as a person & what she sees herself doing in the future. She said "I'm really happy with the outcome because I kept coming back and forth from it over the holidays to make sure that it represented me as a person and also my visions"  I really like this moodboard because its not like everyone else's in the sense of researching different people and getting what you like about them. She took what she liked in general and worked with that.

Jasmine Collins

Jasmines inspiration for her moodboard was a 'Behind the scenes' theme, which collaborated with the likes of catwalks & movie make-up. The research that went into the moodboard was used from magazines like Vogue & Cosmopolitan. Jasmine likes to look at the faces of models directly for her creation. I think this works well because her moodboard is full of life and she's also done a good job at being creative to capture her thoughts on what the future holds for her. I like this moodboard because you can see that Jasmine took a lot of time and effort to create this. There isn't a spare space on the page to add anything more which I do like as it shows she's used all of it to the full potential. When asked about her moodboard, Jasmine said 'I am pleased with the outcome of my final moodboard because it is a full page of what I hope to achieve in life but I'm a slight perfectionist and it is messy to me. So if I was to do this again, I'd make it a lot neater.

Overall, I believe this task was a good starter to our course because it made us this about what we want out of it and why we chose to do it in the first place. However, when we look back at it once we come to the end of our time at university, it might be completely different. These moodboards represent our thought as of right now. We don't know what we will be thinking in three years time when it comes to leaving university and starting our careers, but I'd like to look back at this, being my first blog, and think of good memories & how much I've been taught by my peers & teachers.
